Downtown and the Historic District
The homes around downtown carry Dalton's history: tall original sashes, wavy glass, deep casings under a century of paint. Nothing here is a standard size, and that is the charm. The right answer is a treatment built to the opening, usually plantation shutters or real wood blinds finished to match the trim. The Mill Villages
The cottages that grew up around the carpet and textile mills, Crown Mill most famously, are compact, charming and full of quirks. Small rooms reward simple treatments: a clean roller or cellular shade keeps the sill lines uncluttered, and cordless lifts suit the smaller openings. Measure everything, assume nothing, because these houses were built by hand and it shows in the best possible way.
The Ranch Neighborhoods
Follow Cleveland Highway or Walnut Avenue out from the center and you are in ranch country, street after street of solid brick built in the mid-century decades. These are some of the best value homes in North Georgia, and their long window rows suit custom faux wood blinds beautifully: consistent from the street, tough enough for family life, and priced sensibly across a whole house. The west-facing rooms take the ridge-line sun, so consider a cellular shade there instead.
North Toward Cohutta and Varnell
The new construction filling in north of town brings the modern floor plan: two-story foyers, open great rooms, glass everywhere. It is beautiful and it is a lot of sun. Cover the west and south faces first with insulating honeycomb shades, use motorized shades on anything you would need a ladder to touch, and if you are still pre-closing, call us before move-in day so the bedrooms are private on night one.
